Rules

  • This is an individual competition, all the work submitted (e.g., visualizations and commentary) should be your work and your work only.
  • You can use any software to perform the analysis and create visualization/s to determine the next warehouse location to alleviate the longest delivery times for the most people. 
  • You can perform any desired manipulation/wrangling of the data provided for the competition in order to make the data more meaningful.
  • You can also use and join additional publicly available data to identify the best location (as long as the data are publicly accessible and you provide the source for them).
  • Participants need to complete a short survey to be eligible to win the prizes. The survey is available at this link.
  • Participants need to follow The Gateway Podcast in at least one of the following platforms:  Spotify, Apple podcasts, Google podcasts.
  • You should not contact Joe or Uline for additional information on this challenge.

Dates

March 20th: Competition open

April 14th: Competition close

April 20th: Winners are announced at the MIS Colloqium

Eligibility

Any COB student is eligible to participate in this competition as long as the rules available in the above section are followed. Failing to respect them will result in disqualification from the competition and will prevent you from winning the prizes.

Project and Submission Requirements

Follow the submission requirements in the What to Submit section above. Make sure to submit not only the visualization/s but also the commentary file. All the files or a link to files must be submitted here on Devpost.

Prizes

The top three visualization/s will receive the following awards:

  • First Place: a $250 Amazon gift card + Uline water bottle & pallet notes 
  • Second Place: a $100 Amazon gift card + Uline water bottle & pallet notes 
  • Third Place: a $50 Amazon gift card + Uline water bottle & pallet note

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection

The judges will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:

  • Informativeness (30 points): The visualization/s & commentary should effectively address the business challenge.
  • Creativity (30 points): The visualization/s & commentary should include innovative elements. A single heatmap of the US will not impress us ;-)
  • Impact (40 points): The visualization/s & commentary should provide valuable insights and have the potential to inform Uline business decisions.
